Umeå University – a university that makes things possible
Umeå University is home to research and education on a high international level, which contributes to innovation, research advances and enhanced understanding – in Sweden and across the globe.
Its 35,000 students and 4,000 employees make Umeå University one of Sweden’s largest higher education institutions. Having flourished for a mere 50 years means that the University has avoided stagnation and instead finds itself in constant progress. Thanks to its moderate size, but despite its international atmosphere, everything is close by at Umeå University. Here, you find prosperous research environments and cosy accommodation close by. And there are no borders between students, researchers and the management. Campus Umeå is also in close proximity to the town centre and right next door to one of Sweden’s biggest and well-reputed university hospitals. Umeå Arts Campus is a stone’s throw away and another two campuses can be found in neighbouring towns, Skellefteå and Örnsköldsvik.
The University also consists of the highly-ranked Umeå Institute of Design, the Umeå School of Architecture – Sweden’s only such school specialising on the arts –, and a School of Restaurant and Culinary Arts with the most modern research restaurant in Sweden, as well as an environmentally certified Umeå School of Business and Economics. Umeå University is also one of three national sports universities in Sweden and has the nation’s only Arctic Research Centre.
