The Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia (ISSP) is an independent research institution and an internationally recognized leading European Centre of Excellence in materials science and cross-disciplinary topics. To be a leader in our field, we have developed our Research Programme 2030 that focuses on pioneering fields such as photonics, smart materials, innovative products and technologies, biomedicine, and biotechnology, aligned with Latvia’s research and RIS3 priority areas.
Our team of 300 professionals (including >100 PhDs and >40 PhD students) operates within 10,000 m² of advanced facilities, featuring a 650 m² ISO-class 4-8 cleanroom and specialized centres for spectroscopy, microscopy, and structure analysis, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, nanotechnology, thin films, electrochemistry, and computing.
