Aim of the Call

The objective of this call is to incentivize and promote the mobility of young and emergent researchers from developing countries to conduct a fellowship in the Clinical Virology and Zoonoses research group of the IMIBIC. The program aims at establishing an interaction between the IMIBIC and the centre of origin of the researcher through joint research projects, facilitating the acquiring of skills and updating of knowledge by the applicant. In the same way, this program will promote the establishment of new links between both institutions, fostering a stable and permanent collaboration.

Scope of the Call

This call is open to researchers who work in research centers from developing countries. Applicants should be enrolled in doctoral programs or have obtained their PhD in the last three years prior to the call deadline. The applicant will integrate into the Clinical Virology and Research Group. The fellowship will have a duration appropriate to the project proposed by the applicant, but in no case more than 3 months.


The Clinical Virology and Zoonoses research group of the IMIBIC will assume the whole cost of:

  • Travel from the Institution of origin to the IMIBIC
  • Accommodation and living expenses of the fellow during the fellowship
  • Cost of the research project, including laboratory consumables, samples shipment, translation of papers and abstract…
  • Cost derived from the applicant formation (workshops, seminars and courses for specific training).

A fixed-amount living allowance will be established according to internal rules at IMIBIC. Fellows will sign a sworn declaration of the expenses and provide the corresponding receipts and/or invoices.

How to Apply

Candidates should address their applications to the Scientific Director of the IMIBIC to the following email address: international [at] imibic.org, including the following documents:

  • Formal acceptance of the Institution of origin
  • CV of the applicant
  • Brief description of the research project
  • Description of the collaboration proposal between IMIBIC and Institution of origin in every phase of the project (project review, biological analysis of samples, interpretation of results, manuscript preparation, authorships and publication costs).

The Call will remain open from 28 May till 31 August 2020 (00:00h, GMT+1).

Evaluation process

The evaluation and selection process has the following phases:

  • Eligibility check by the Research Support Service
  • Evaluation of CV and Project proposal by the principal investigators of the Clinical Virology and Research Group.

Evaluation process

The evaluation process will have a duration of 7 natural days. The final decision will be announced personally by email to the selected applicant and published on the IMIBIC website.

Please note that due to the current situation in relation to the SARS-Cov2 pandemic, the start of the project will be subject to obtaining the clearance for the travel by both the Spanish Health Authority and the corresponding authority from the country of origin of the researcher.

Acceptance and obligations

The selected fellow undertakes to comply with the conditions of the present call and to present to the IMIBIC a final report of the fellowship no later than 6 months after completion of the project.

General policies

The funds to cover the present call will be provided by the Clinical Virology and Zoonoses research Group of the IMIBIC. IMIBIC will manage the cost of travel, accommodation and living allowance of the fellow. The Clinical Virology and Zoonoses research Group of the IMIBIC will manage the cost of the research project, including the preparation, translation and publication of manuscripts resulting from the abovementioned project. The Clinical Virology and Zoonoses research Group of the IMIBIC will also manage the training cots of the applicant.
