If you are a researcher and have a residence permit for a year or more, you have access to social and health insurance on the same terms as Swedes. Your medical care is subsidised. Visits to the doctor or clinic entail a fixed low fee, and dentist's visits are also subsidised, though more expensive.
Since you have a salary, you are also eligible for state-sponsored compensation if you fall ill while in Sweden and are unable to work for a prolonged period. Complete information of social benefits and allowances are found in different languages at the Social insurance office.
If you stay less than one year and receive your salary from a Swedish employer, you should contact your local Social insurance office upon arrival in Sweden. You may be eligible for a certificate proving that you are entitled to medical care in Sweden.
